ZF
offers driveline solutions for city buses, public transit buses, and coaches.
Costs savings during operation thanks to reliability, freedom from maintenance,
and reduced fuel consumption.
Further
developed ZF-Intarder transmission brake preserves the brake system. Be it inner
city traffic, transit operation, or long distances to be traveled by coach: ZF
driveline technology ensures economical operation in all bus applications. Public
transport authorities and travel organizations benefit from the long service life
of ZF products and from the fact that all new ZF commercial vehicle transmissions
require practically no maintenance and run reliably. Moreover, automatic commercial
vehicle transmissions, such as the AS Tronic by ZF, generate considerable fuel
savings during operation. Raw
material and fuel prices are on the rise; international public transport authorities
and coach companies are forced to make absolutely accurate calculations. "The
commercial vehicle transmission has already become one of the most important economic
factors for our end customers," says Wolfgang Schilha, member of the Board
of Management of the Commercial Vehicle and Special Driveline Technology division
and Vice President of the Bus Driveline Technology business unit at ZF. "For
years now, ZF products have been abreast of this development. Already in the development
phase for new products, we aim at generating cost advantages during operation."
Automatic
transmissions The
automatic commercial vehicle transmission system AS Tronic is particularly economical.
Meanwhile, it is also installed in more than 12,000 coaches. It features a long
life cycle, requires no maintenance and it also generates fuel savings during
operation, as it ensures an optimal transfer of engine power to the drive axles.
Gears are engaged fully automatically without engagement jolts and load change
shocks - this preserves the clutch and the entire driveline, at the same time
ensuring a comfortable ride for coach drivers and passengers. Fuel-demanding faulty
operation is excluded by the electronics; this means that any driver can economically
operate an automatically controlled vehicle. Moreover, drivers can concentrate
fully on the traffic situation. For
the special requirements of city buses, ZF has developed the new EcoLife transmission,
an automatic 6-speed powershift transmission with torque converter which is being
introduced to the market. Reduction of operating costs already played a major
role during product development. Consequently, maintenance intervals can be extended
even further for this particular transmission type. The service life has been
significantly increased and numerous innovations enable fuel savings. Wear-free
braking with the new Intarder generation Both
automatic and manual transmissions can be supplemented ideally with the ZF-Intarder
transmission brake which has been completely reengineered by ZF. The new version
can now also be integrated in the cruise control function of the vehicle. The
use of the Intarder is economically recommended - for all commercial vehicle types:
The wear-free braking effect in the transmission takes over up to 90 percent of
daily braking activities; thus, the vehicle's service brake is preserved and,
as a result, expensive brake lining replacements are no longer required. Editor:Ida
