| Weichai
Power Co Ltd launched its newly-developed high-speed diesel engine, the WD12,
on October 20. This is China's first 12-liter 480 horsepower engine with independent
intellectual property rights.
The 12-liter high-speed diesel engine is
the core component for large commercial vehicles and engineering equipment. China
has a total number of 1.6 million units of such engines currently in use. However,
the above-12-liter-displacement and 380-horsepower diesel engine market has been
dominated by foreign suppliers for a long time.
The WD12 high-capacity
diesel engine was developed by the European Research Center of Weichai Power after
five years of research. The engine has passed tests under all kinds of extreme
conditions.
