Since
July 1, 2006, China has reduced its import tariff for complete vehicles including
passenger vehicles, cross-country vehicles and minibus from 28 per cent to 25
%, and that of auto parts including the body, chassis and gasoline engine of middle
or low level displacement from 13.8-16.4 % to 10 %, according to the National
Development and Reform Commission. These constitute further reductions
made following China's promise of cutting custom duty for some of imported cars
and their components and parts upon its WTO accession. To date, China has fully
fulfilled its commitment in this regard.
